Project Information
- The project replaces the existing St Ninian’s Primary School
- new facilities provide accommodation for a maximum of 459 primary school pupils and 40 nursery children aged 3 to 5 years. The design allows for future expansion via provision of an additional four classrooms to the teaching wing to accommodate an additional 132 pupils.
- Provide a learning and teaching environment fit for the 21st century that is flexible and adaptable to keep pace with changes in education.
- Comply with Scottish Schools for the Future grant funding requirements and in particular to work within the primary school programme metrics.
- Take account of Scottish Government/CoSLA vision in ‘Building Better Schools: Investing in Scotland’s Future’ and all current/relevant standards in relation to school design/construction.
- Meet Care Inspectorate’s standards in relation to the nursery environment.
- Deliver appropriate external facilities to ensure that the ‘daily mile’ initiative can continue and all pupils can benefit from well-designed external spaces despite the restricted urban site/setting.
- Allow for welcoming and flexible use of the accommodation by the wider community after school hours.
