Project Information
The Levenmouth Campus project involved the design and construction of a new high school catering for 1800 pupils built on the existing site of Buckhaven Secondary School.
The new, single site, purpose-built school involved merging the catchment areas of both Kirkland and Buckhaven High Schools to form a new single catchment area and a school tailored to meet the needs of the whole of the Levenmouth and Landward community.
By merging two schools into one purpose built, more energy efficient building, the overall school estate footprint is smaller, therefore reducing ongoing operating costs and carbon emissions.
One of the overall design aims taken from the community consultation process was to create both an education and community valued additional asset. The design allows for areas of the school to be made available for community use whilst maintaining a secure lock-down to other areas. The new sports block and assembly spaces will become a highly valued community asset for use by community groups.
To ensure the new school building encapsulates the ethos of the community, detailed community consultations within each secondary school took place and were beneficial in creating a positive relationship with the community and providing a new identity for the school.
Following completion of the new build facility the existing Buckhaven High School was demolished as part of the contract and the area developed into a playing field area for the new school and community.
